Plot
A fading celebrity takes a black-market drug: a cell-replicating substance that temporarily creates a younger, better version of herself. There’s nothing scarier than being human, and these films explore the utterly inhuman ways our bodies can betray us.

Ray Liotta was cast in the film in February 2022, but died in May of that year before he could shoot his scenes. Dennis Quaid replaced him, but Liotta is still mentioned in the director’s Acknowledgments.

According to the British Board of Film Classification (BBFC) website, the version of The Substance that was released theatrically in the United Kingdom was not cut (a total of 141 minutes and 7 seconds), but the version released for home media, was shortened by about three seconds (running a total of 141 and 4 seconds). The BBFC has not specified what the cuts are..

It was enjoyable to watch, but the last 20-30 minutes got kind of silly and dumb, it lost its intelligence and subtlety to say the least and turned into pure dumb crass nature, completely unnecessary, especially when the messages weren’t exactly subtle and it was obvious throughout the movie, from the premise itself tbh the thing is they could have ended on a much stronger note before the last change as it didn’t add anything it was trying to say or show not that it should put anyone off watching it it’s a good movie , which will have you hooked from start to finish, but should have been 20 minutes shorter..
